Franz Marc

Franz Marc is our absolute, most favorite artist from the 20th century and we have devoted a whole wordpress blog to him here. There will be great amounts of detail on his career as well as individual posts on some of his most famous paintings, including pictures of each as well. Please return to this interesting Wordpress art blog as we continue to expand it over time, possibly to the point of even translating it into several other languages beyond just English.

German Expressionist art was fortunate enough to count amongst it's ranks some truly creative and cutting-edge artists, one of which was Franz Marc who remains a much loved painter with a considerable catalogue of work remaining from a career which was sadly cut short. Despite his short life, Franz Marc was still able to leave a highly influential legacy which we can reflect on in detail in this unofficial fan blog.

German Expressionism cannot be underestimated in it's influence on 20th century European art as a whole and many of it's members remain household names, some 100 years after much of their fine work was completed. This popularity is also shown in the huge numbers of reproduction copies of their original paintings which are ordered every year which again underlines the continued strength of painters like Franz Marc and his colleague Wassily Kandinsky.

One the best characteristics of Franz Marc paintings were their great use of colour as well as he abstract forms which the artist liked to use. This style can be found consistently through his high moments as an artist but the early days of his career would have instead been full of greater experimentation and variety. Another memorable aspect of the artist's work was his frequent use of animals as portrait content which was always likely to prove popular.
